blindability penginOne would think, after spending a year off work, I would have taken the time to write then, but instead, I’m starting up again a week before having to head back into the workforce. Maybe I like the added pressure.

Since Poro has put in the effort to get things going again here, I thought I’d do my part as well, plus this season seems promising. And while I can’t guarantee any regularity in our posts, I will put forth my best to get an article up here every now and then. If that isn’t dedication, I’m not sure what is!

So I haven’t had a chance to go through all the shows that somewhat drew interest from me this season yet, but even then, I try to give a show at least two or three episodes before I make a final decision. Like with Gatchman Crowds last season, I watched about five episodes before I decided Hajime’s voice was more irritating than the show was interesting. There are only a few shows I’m definitely going to watch this season:

Kyousougiga

I’m really excited they’re going to delve deeper into the world of Kyousougiga! I really enjoyed the OVA and those handful of episodes they threw at us a short while ago, and despite the low-quality of videos accessible to me for the earlier releases of Kyousougiga, I thought the whole setting was vibrantly beautiful. It’ll be interesting to see a bit more of the history behind that family and how it all relates to Koto and her brothers. Plus I’m sure there’s plenty of fun to be had in between and all around!

Yozakura Quartet Hana no Uta

Again, it’s because of the OVA released a while ago that I’m watching this. I think there was another TV series … but I’m not sure. Admittedly, I’m a bit lost in the story and all its characters, but these are also the reasons why I’m so interested in watching: I want to know what’s going on.

Kyoukai no Kanata

vlcsnap-2013-10-11-14h08m33s253

I’m not sure what it is about this show that makes me want to keep watching it. I think the plot has more or less been laid out for us in the first episode already (I have yet to find time to watch the second as of this moment), and I doubt there will be too many surprises, though I could be wrong, and if I am, I would welcome that (I’m wrong all the time anyway). The relationship between the two main characters is entertaining, even if the girl is a bit silly. At this point, she’s still tolerable, and I have high hopes that she’ll only get better at her “job”.

And that’s about it for the shows I’m definitely going to watch this season. Oh, and the second season of The Legend of Korra, but I don’t know how long that’s going to last. I know there are lots of hardcore Korra fans who will want to boil my blood with their pseudo Water Bending skills, but The Legend of Korra is pretty awful so far – last season included. I’m still watching because I really want to see it be as great as the original series – or in case Meelo takes over and becomes the Avatar (he is a quarter Water Tribe). Who am I kidding: I’d be okay with Meelo becoming a tyrant far worse than Ozai, ruling the world with an iron fist and his well-coordinated army of Flying Lemurs.

Holy hell, whoever was the last flying lemur was fucking pimp. Like how long ago was the original? Like maybe a hundred years tops? Holy crap that’s a lot of babies in order to have that many lemurs repopulated.

The Legend of Korra begins about 70 years after The Last Airbender. And yes: Momo did a fine job rebuilding the Flying Lemur population!

Can at least say I’ll be watching a couple of these series as well :).

I do remember watching the original Yozakura Quartet series, but I can’t really recall much. It was decent enough, but I guess not good enough for them to avoid giving it a reboot treatment. I did enjoy the OVA and am sure I’ll be enjoying this new series. A fun enough group to be worth watching a series for.

As for Kyoukai no Kanata, I think it’s just alright. I don’t know maybe a simple bloodsword doesn’t impress me anymore after Deadman Wonderland. At least they have a good studio animating it and it should be ok. Hasn’t really pulled me in, but I’ll keep watching.

I still need to finish the first season of Korra. The original series is a hard act to follow and honestly I don’t think Korra can match up. Might still be a solid show all in all though.

You know, I never made it through Deadman Wonderland; it was a bit … too much for me. Probably because I scare easily. I suppose that’s one of the reasons why I like series like Kyoukai no Kanata: they are cute enough that I won’t be too upset with the blood and spirits content. Although, to be fair, there was one scene early in Hyouka that scared me and I never managed to finish that series either.

As for The Legend of Korra, I say if you never get through the first season and onto the second season, it’s no loss to you. Maybe Korra et al will live up the high standards set by Team Avatar a la Aang, but they’ve got a long way to go from where they are now. Don’t worry, if the show suddenly takes a turn toward infallible awesomeness, I’ll let you know!

        Hey!

Yeah I would say that Deadman Wonderland could be a bit too much for some people. Oddly not a type of series I’m usually hugely into, but I stuck with it for some reason. Manga got pretty crazy so I wouldn’t say it got tamer over time. This series is looking much more cute focused so it shouldn’t be too much. Though that depends I guess how often the main character gets impaled.

Hmm can’t think of what in Hyouka might have been too scary to continue. Overall I’d say the series has a few sad stories, but is a pretty nice series overall. Nothing really bad happens to the main characters.

Yeah, I just didn’t feel that Korra was pulling me in the way the original series did. That was quite the solid cast of characters they had originally. For now I’ll let it sit, but feel free to let me know if it does suddenly go into awesome mode!
